Sorry for the short hiatus last week-the arrival and exit of Typhoon Glenda, coupled with my Angkong's 90th Birthday bash in Cebu, and my boyfriend's imminent departure rendered me missing-in-action" for the past few days. Well being of body, mind and soul is the greatest blessing one can have.

Pain in the heels can affect the ability to walk and this is usually caused due to the presence of bone spurs or ill-fitting shoes. Plantar fasciitis is a serious foot condition that occurs on the bottom of the foot. Foot cramps are caused due to various factors likes malnutrition, improper blood circulation and foot exertion. By wearing the right shoes one can lessen the problem of foot cramps. This is pain that is often felt at rest when laying in bed.

A serious situation Dr. Jeffery Glaser: I have seen cases were patients have walked in the office with different types of foreign objects in their foots such as a piece of wood, a needle, glass so these are things that typically will set up the major type of infection that in typically when diabetic patients have the lack in neuropathy lack of sensation of the feet they also have issues with healing wounds also they typically do not mount any type of fever like symptoms were common in known that vacations that would engage in infection, so typically when they do come to us in this situations is a very serious situation.

Even if you have good socks or panty-hose between your foot and your shoe, frequent rubbing of the shoe against your skin creates fluids to build up in that area to create a buffer between your skin and the shoe. When the blister breaks, we feel the real discomfort from the raw skin hitting our shoe. A bunion is a bony bump at the base of your big toe and causes the toe to lean toward the other toes. Poorly fitting, or ill-supporting, shoes can cause this pronation of the foot.

Unlike corns and calluses that involve the excess build up of skin, bunions involve the malformation of a bone, most often the big toe joint. With time, the big toe may eventually shift and angle toward the other toes, causing the bony prominence to grow larger. Corns and calluses often develop on the skin as a result of the repeated friction. Bunions involve a bone, which means treatment is necessary to prevent progressive damage. Many times conservative treatments, such as padding, modified footwear, orthotic devices or splints can be highly effective for preventing further growth and reducing the pressure and pain. When these treatments aren't affective, however, surgery may be necessary in order to remove the bony bulge and realign the toe.

Reducing the recurring pressure is key to alleviating the discomfort and appearance of a corn, callus and bunion. Corns and calluses are thick, hardened layers of dead skin that develop as a result of your skin's natural protection against friction and pressure. Likewise, your feet may not be exactly the same size.

Usually, your surgeon will remove some bone and may reposition bones, ligaments and tendons in your foot. This is typically used if you have a large bunion or you also have arthritis in your toe. Your surgeon will cut the bony surfaces either side of the joint at the base of your big toe and realign the joint to straighten your toe. This removes the bump of the bunion from the inside of your foot. It's only used for mild bunions, as it doesn't cure the underlying problem. This involves removing a small wedge of bone from the base of your toe. It's used for more serious bunions and you need to wear a cast for up to six weeks afterwards. This procedure involves removing the bone at the base of your big toe and half of your big toe joint. It can be very effective in relieving pain but does result in shortening of the big toe.
