If you have severe pain in the ball of foot in the morning after or while walking, running or after sleeping or sitting you may be wondering whether you can cure ball of foot pain in the morning. Metatarsalgia is a general term used to denote a painful foot condition in the metatarsal (ball of foot) region of the foot. Metatarsalgia (ball of foot pain) is often located under the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th metatarsal heads, or more isolated at the first metatarsal head (near the big toe). Orthopedic Shoes.

Applications of ice packs that provide a comfortable cooling to the ball of the foot (not a freezing cold) will help reduce pain, swelling, and inflammation. Make sure it is comfortable, and leave on your foot for about 20 minutes, 3 times a day. Wear shoes with heel heights of no more than 3/4 to 1 inch. If the heel is higher, too much of your body weight will be thrown forward on the balls of the feet. Shoes-especially those with thick, cushioned soles-protect the feet and provide good shock absorption for the entire body. When you are over-weight, abnormal amounts of weight are brought to bear on the foot each time a step is taken. This continuous excessive pressure on the ball can cause inflammation, swelling, and pain. Keeping body weight within a healthy range can decrease your chance of having metatarsalgia. Gel "U"-Shaped Callus Pads (Self-Stick & Re-Usable) protect painful metatarsal heads and calluses, thus reducing ball of foot discomfort.

A heel spur can form on the heel bone, or calcaneus, where the plantar fascia attaches, causing pain along the sole. Conditions that predispose you to plantar fasciitis or formation of a heel spur include obesity, long-distance running and a rigid flat or high-arched foot. Arthritis can affect any joints in the foot, causing a dull achy pain that is worse upon rising and improves throughout the day. The posterior tibial nerve travels through a narrow tunnel of ligament and bone alongside the ankle as it passes from the leg into the foot. Those with diabetes, arthritis and extremely flat feet are more likely to develop tarsal tunnel syndrome.

The therapy uses low-dose sound waves to injure the surrounding tissues in the heel, which is believed to trigger healing of the tissues that are causing the pain. Studies show that the treatment provides a very small reduction in heel pain without side effects. It can be considered as an option for patients who haven't responded well to extensive conservative treatment. Surgery may be needed for some patients, typically those who have disabling heel pain that does not respond to other treatments for at least a year. More research is needed on this treatment. Treatment for Flat Feet in Children.

Morton's neuroma is a thickening of the nerves and usually affects the ball of the foot, usually in between the third and fourth toes. This condition can lead to highly sensitive feet, numbness and pain in the ball of the foot, as well as top of the foot pain. It is usually caused by irritation to the nerves, pressure on the feet or by a trauma. Ganglion cysts are jelly-like sacs which usually develop on top of the foot around the ankle joint. Whilst they are not serious, and do not cause pain, the extra pressure they place on the tissues and nerves may cause top of foot pain. The most common emergency treatment for top of foot pain is the RICE method. Instead, always let your head follow the ball.

A good stretch for quads is to stand and bend one knee and bring your heel to your buttock; you should feel the stretch/burn in the front of your bent thigh. It stretches when you sit in a chair with your feet on the floor, cross one ankle over your opposite thigh, bend your torso forward; you should feel the stretch/burn in your crossed leg buttock. There are some good foot exercises that are easily done as well. Wearing ill-fitting shoes may also give rise to this condition.

Stand on a step with both feet on the same step and slowly let your heels down over the edge of the step as you relax your calf muscles. Hold this stretch for about 15 to 20 seconds, then tighten your calf muscle a little to bring your heel back up to the level of the step. To ease Plantar Fasciitis and heel pain you can take an anti-inflammatory that contains Ibuprofen, like Nurofen or Advil. This is a short term fix that will help decrease the inflammation of the plantar fascia. You still need to do take all the other measures such as stretching, ice, orthotics etc to achieve long term pain relief from your heel problem. Over-pronation (fallen arches) is the main cause of Plantar Fasciitis and heel pain. Floppy footwear causes ankle instability during walking and contributes to the problem of over-pronation, leading to heel pain and other foot problems. A night splint holds the foot at 90 degrees during your sleep.
